Combat Post Traumatic Stress before it becomes a disorder. Unortunately this career will take a toll on us. It would be more concerning if the things we see did not effect us. On this page you will find links to different mental health resources as well as related articles. Remember to SUFFER ALOUD. Talk about it and check in with your brothers and sisters. We have to encourage communication. Firefighters and Paramedics are twice as likely to die by suicide when compared to the general population. Change the statistic.

For what its worth…

It has become abundantly clear that the fire service has turned “Mental Health” into just another training exercise, another check off for your yearly log. Very few resources seem to actually offer a way to help. Almost comically, it seems that mental health has just become another liability that the so-called “higher ups” wish to cover their ass on. This is not to say that nobody is trying, although some of the resources seem downright condescending. Truly, there must be well and good in the original thought of providing resources for mental health. But…Do these people truly feel that petting a fucking dog or some box breathing is going to help us work through the trauma of a child dying in front of us? Or whatever incident it is that comes to mind. The problem is we all think we are good and then somebody snaps. How do we recognize the issues early and address them? We have links to resources we feel are actually helpful and we will continue to provide nuanced articles, science and more. Utilize the resources available, and feel free to email us admin@thefirefightermedic.com and we will do everything we can to help you. Work in Silence. Suffer Aloud
